NYC Red Velvet Cupcake Tour!

I am working with a wonderful bride who lives in California and she has asked me to taste red velvet cupcakes on her behalf. Naturally I happily accepted the task to try and find the best red velvet cupcake in New York City! I spent Sunday traveling all over Manhattan and visited three top cupcakeries in the city! Below are the photos and notes of my tasting, Enjoy!

Amy's Bread

Overall I thought that their cupcake was good. It was topped with a butter-cream frosting rather than the typical cream cheese frosting. The cupcake was a tad dry and heavy for my liking. The overall presentation was fantastic, the frosting sat perfectly on the cupcake topped with an adorable heart. This was my second favorite red velvet cupcake.

Sprinkles Cupcakes

Overall I thought this cupcake was great. It was topped with the classic cream cheese frosting. The cupcake was very moist and the overall presentation was stunning! The  frosting wrapped the top of the cupcake and was topped with their classic button. This was my favorite red velvet cupcake!

Magnolia Bakery

Overall I thought this cupcake was just ok. This cupcake was topped with whipped vanilla icing, which was very light and not what I expected. There is so much hype surrounding this cupcakerie but honestly the cupcake was very airy, light and almost tasted stale. The frosting has a classic look to it but it did not have any topper or additional flair. This was my least favorite red velvet cupcake.

*all photos from my iPhone* There are many cupcakeries I wanted to try but only had time for three in Manhattan. I purchased all cupcakes, and opinions are my own.
