Tanner Fletcher

Episode 14 Tanner and Fletcher

In episode 14 of Weddings-ish with Jove, we’re thrilled to welcome Tanner and Fletcher, the dynamic duo behind Tanner Fletcher, a Brooklyn-based design house and lifestyle brand renowned for their innovative approach to genderless fashion and vintage pieces.

Tanner and Fletcher's story is as dynamic as their design career. They met through Facebook while searching for roommates. Initially, Tanner was hesitant about sharing a living space due to concerns about coming out as gay, but after a break in communication, they reconnected and decided to become platonic roommates. As they got to know each other better, they started dating just before moving in together. Their close bond quickly turned into a solid relationship, and they’ve been living together ever since.

Fletcher initially aimed to be a pharmacist, while Tanner studied interior design but both men eventually gravitated towards design, finding their true passion. Sharing a like-mindness in their taste, the two became natural collaborators. They moved from Minneapolis to New York City in 2019 to pursue their careers. Tanner interned at a staging company in real estate, while Fletcher worked at Barneys. They split their roles with Tanner focusing on production and Fletcher on design. Despite their different styles—Fletcher being a maximalist and Tanner a minimalist—they collaborate seamlessly and share impeccable taste and a love for bows.

During the pandemic, they began creating tote bags as a side project. Tanner’s background in making tote bags in high school and their mutual love for design led to a successful venture. Their first clothing collection, launched in spring/summer 2022, marked a significant milestone, garnering attention from major retailers like Essence.

Their collections are diverse, including a wedding collection and everyday items with a touch of flair. Their designs often reflect a nostalgic longing for an era they didn’t live through, inspired by vintage finds and family heirlooms.

Making the leap to bridal, Tanner and Fletcher launched their collection swiftly. You can work with Tanner Fletcher on your wedding wardrobe by purchasing off the rack, making edits to their current designs, or having them create a bespoke piece. Their work has been seen on high-profile celebrities, including at events like the Met Gala and worn by artists like Bad Bunny and Kacey Musgraves. Despite the fast-paced nature of their work and the challenges of staying grounded, they take pride in their achievements and continue to push the boundaries of their creativity.

Tanner and Fletcher are deeply involved in sourcing vintage home goods, often via Tanner’s mom in Wisconsin, which they use as inspiration and sell in curated collections and often struggling to part with treasured items. When Jove asks, Tanner recommends Cape Cod, Ebay, or their website for curated vintage items.

Some have named Tanner + Fletcher the Gen-z Marth Stuart. Their perfect customer order would take part in all parts of their Tanner + Fletcher world: a not so basic basic, a candle holder, and a trinket box.

“I just needed a roommate.”
